American Historical Ephemera & Photography
American Historical Ephemera & Photography
The "Land of the Free and the Home of the Brave" takes center stage in Hindman’s November 30 American Historical Ephemera and Photography Auction. The sale features an important selection of flags, early photography, autographs, manuscripts, and militaria representing American conflicts, most notably the Civil War, politics, African Americana, Native American affairs, and westward expansion. Property from many important collections will be offered, including the Early Photography Collection of Jules Martino of Silverton, Oregon, which embodies the true breadth of the category, and the J. Richard Pierce Collection of American Parade Flags. Highlights include a ninth plate daguerreotype portrait of General James Birdseye McPherson; Late Indian Wars-era US Cavalry regimental colors descended directly in the family of Nelson Miles; an extensive California Gold Rush archive of William J. Jewell (1818-1885) including letters, diaries, and photographs, as well as a pair of daguerreotypes showing Jewell working in the California gold fields, ca 1852-1853.
