Mechanical Banks and Toys

This auction from the Estate of Ray Waltz features an extensive selection of cast iron mechanical banks including rare and desirable models by famous manufacturers like J. & E. Stevens, Kyser & Rex, Judd Mfg., Shepard hardware, Hubley, and Kilgore. The spectacular centerpiece is the large and elaborate Ferris Wheel bank manufactured by Hubley. This impressive bank features eight detailed rider cages that move up and down as coins are deposited. Another top lot originates from famous manufacturer J. & E. Stevens - the iconic "Indian Shooting Bear" bank featuring a brave Native American taking aim at a growling black bear. This popular bank remains highly coveted today. Several playful penny banks up for bid that were produced by the renowned Shepard Hardware Company of Buffalo, New York. Among them is the wonderful "Jonah and Whale" bank depicting the Biblical story of the prophet being swallowed by a huge whale. The delightful "Picture Gallery" bank features six classic portraits that rotate through when powered by deposited coins. And the amusing "Punch and Judy" bank portrays the beloved 1700s puppet show characters Punch and Judy in action, with Punch swinging to hit Judy when activated. J. & E. Stevens highlights include the incredible "Milking Cow" bank as well as other popular issues like "Dentist", "Reclining Chinaman", "Monkey and Coconut", "Bull Dog", and "Bread Winners". Other top mechanical banks an Ives Blakeslee "Bull Dog", Samuel Clark's very scarce 7-hole "Hold the Fort" bank, and the whimsical "Pig in High Chair". The toy section includes a wonderful selection of Disney wind-up and pressed steel toys featuring classic characters like Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck as well as Marx tin lithograph wind-up vehicles. The Marx offerings cover tractors with accessories and drivers, race cars, trucks, steam shovels, farm play sets and more.
