STAIR is proud to offer works from the Collection of James Grafstein. Mr. Grafstein was a well-respected dealer and a friend to many in the antiques community. Trained in France at the Muse? du Louvre his knowledge of the 18th French Decorative arts was renowned. He was specifically recognized for his discerning eye for French Furniture and Porcelain. He later paid homage to the Louvre with several important donations to their collection and was granted France?s highest civilian award for his generosity.
Highlights in the sale include a selection of Sevres and other fine porcelains, and a notable group of fine French furniture ranging from Louis XV to the Empire period including a Louis XV Chaise by Nogaret, a pair of Louis XV/XVI Painted Fauteuils by Jean-Baptiste Boulard, and a Loius XVI Parquetry Commode by Jean Caumont. Accompanying the fine furniture is a group of figural bronzes after the antique, a pair of George III Cassolettes by Mathew Boulton, Blue John Urns, Ormolu-Mounted Green Porphyry Candlesticks, and a selection of fine ormolu clocks.
