Estate of 29th Commandant Gen. A.M. Gray USMC
Quinn's Auction Galleries is proud to present the auction of the Estate of General Alfred M. Gray Jr., the 29th Commandant of the U.S.M.C. Gray was known affectionately in the service as a ?Marine?s Marine,? and he had an outsized influence on the Marine Corps during his 41 years of service. He enlisted in 1950 during the Korean War and would earn a Silver Star for Heroism during the Vietnam War. Becoming the 29th Commandant, he buttressed and reinvigorated the Marines in the aftermath of the tragedy of the 1983 terrorist attack in Beirut. Gray would prepare the Marines for future conflicts through the adoption of the doctrinal warfighting concept and his advocacy for the importance of education which resulted in the establishment of Marine Corps University.
This auction features a selection of the personal collection of General Gray. Featuring presented firearms, such as Colt Custom SAA revolver, a Chilean Navy Colt M1902 pistol, and an inscribed Colt Gold Cup Mk IV pistol, as well as knives, including a inscribed Randall Made M1-7 stag knife and an inscribed Operation Snowcap Al-Mar 3004 fighting knife. A selection of jewelry and accessories such as inscribed Operation Desert Storm belt buckle, a 18KYG Baume & Mercier strap watch, and a 14KYG Longines watch. As well as diplomatic gifts, decorative art, and furniture.
