Design from 1860 to 1910, Including the Collection of Barry R. Harwood As a part of the Design from 1860 to 1910 sale, we are pleased to offer the Collection of Barry R. Harwood, Curator of Decorative Arts at the Brooklyn Museum and Adjunct Professor at the Cooper-Hewitt Museum/Parsons School of Design?s master?s program in the History of Decorative Arts. Harwood, along with his husband Joseph V. Garry, formed the collection while decorating their country house, Thornside. A true labor of love, the interiors of their country getaway were decorated following the tenets of the Aesthetic Moment and were featured in an article in The Magazine Antiques. The second part of Design from 1860 to 1910 highlights American and English furniture by makers including Herter Brothers, Herts Brothers, Pottier and Stymus, George A Shoolbred, Liberty & Co, Collinson & Lock, Kimbel & Cabus, among others. The decorative arts include makers and designers such as Minton, Faience Manufacturing Co, Cincinnati Art Pottery, Tiffany Co., Felix Braquemond, Ansonia Brass Co. Bradley & Hubbard, and Charles Parker. Also included is a selection of furniture, decorations and books from the Collection of Anne and Gordon Getty, some of which were part of the d?cor at the Getty?s Berkeley Hills home known as Temple of Wings. Painstakingly restored and furnished by Mrs. Getty, the interiors of Temple of Wings honored the rich eclecticism of late 19th and early 20th century design.
