Mid-Century Modern and Design

This auction features significant mid-century modern furniture and contemporary art pieces. A substantial Gino Russo collection from New Hope, Pennsylvania includes hand-crafted walnut dining pieces, featuring a custom-made sideboard and hutch created as a Christmas gift for his wife. The hutch, signed and dated 1994-1999, showcases Russo's craftsmanship with its sculpted front and live edge pulls. The furniture offerings include Danish Modern pieces from renowned makers like Niels Moller, Johannes Andersen, and Bernhard Pedersen. A notable Charles and Ray Eames for Herman Miller lounge chair and ottoman set features molded rosewood shells and black leather upholstery, dating from the 1963-1964 period. The art collection is particularly noteworthy, featuring works by major 20th-century artists including Roy Lichtenstein's offset lithograph "No Thank You," created for an exhibition at James Goodman Gallery, New York. Val Bertoia's Sonambient sculptures, including "33 of Harry's Rods Sound Good" from the 1970s/2023, demonstrate the artist's continuation of his father Harry Bertoia's sonic art legacy. Sterling Boyd Strauser's 1989 oil on board "Table Top Arrangement" represents the New Hope School of Pennsylvania Impressionism. Contemporary bronze sculptures include pieces by Romain de Tirtoff (Ert?), featuring his characteristic Art Deco style in works like "Twilight" and "French Rooster." These limited-edition pieces, released by Fine Art Acquisitions and Chalk & Vermillion, showcase Ert?'s fusion of fashion and sculptural form. The auction also includes a Murano Triedri Glass chandelier attributed to Venini, featuring layered trihedron crystal prisms. Modern seating includes Kazuhide Takahama's Suzanne lounge chairs for Gavina, which can be configured as modular seating.
