About The Louise Brooks Collection:
I am the original purchaser of these rare items, which I won at The Estate of Bill Klein Auctions near Rochester, New York that were held from 2004 - 2006.
Bill Klein was a friend of Louise Brooks in the 1970s and 1980s, and acquired these photos from her, which were part of her own personal collection.
Several of these photos are the same exact ones used by Louise Brooks in her book, Lulu in Hollywood (1982).
About Louise Brooks:
Louise Brooks (November 14, 1906 - August 8, 1985) was an American dancer, actress, and author. In the 1920s Brooks toured with the Denishawn Dance Company, and danced on Broadway, and in Paris, and London.
She starred for Paramount Pictures in 1925, but was unhappy when production moved to Los Angeles in 1927, and in 1928 Brooks chose not to renew her contract.
She went to Europe instead, and made two pictures in Germany with G.W. Pabst that are regarded as being among the greatest of all silent films, especially for her inspired and honest performances in Pandora's Box (1929), and Diary of a Lost Girl (1929).
She made Miss Europe (1930) in France with Augusto Genina, but returned to a career that was already gone in Hollywood, and the studios and executives that had even less use for her there, than she had for them.
Louise Brooks could talk, but couldn't or wasn't willing to carry the same tune the motion picture industry star machine needed to hear from its shiny cogs in the golden age of movies. She made a few westerns, including one with John Wayne, and as the sun set on the 1930s so did her time in Los Angeles, and she finally left and never went back.
In the 1950s Brooks moved to Rochester, New York, and began writing for film journals and publications. Lulu in Hollywood collects some of her best work, and tells the story of her incredible life.
