NEW YORK, NY -- Doyle's auction of Important Jewelry on Wednesday, April 30, 2025 at Noon will showcase luxurious jewelry spanning the Antique through Modern eras by such prestigious makers as Cartier, David Webb, Harry Winston, Raymond Yard, Louis Comfort Tiffany, and Van Cleef & Arpels. Featured will be dazzling rings set with high-carat-weight diamonds and colored gemstones in a variety of cuts, as well as necklaces, brooches and bracelets set with diamonds, colored stones, jade and natural pearls. The selection of luxury timepieces includes examples by Cartier, Jaeger-leCoultre and Breguet.
Featured in the sale are over 20 lots of signature jewelry by the legendary Greek jeweler Ilias Lalaounis (1920-2013). Ilias Lalaounis was born in Athens, a third-generation goldsmith who was best known for his collections inspired by Greek history. Initially studying law, he later joined his family’s jewelry business, and in 1957, he debuted his first collection, the Archaeological Collection, at the Thessaloniki International Fair, drawing inspiration from Classical, Hellenistic, and Minoan Mycenaean art. Unlike his contemporaries, who favored diamonds and gemstones, Lalaounis focused on gold, creating pieces in 18 and 22 karat gold. His designs were influenced by a diverse range of cultures, including Persian, Byzantine, and Chinese art, as well as nature, science, and the cosmos.
