Shaker Baskets & More: Martha Wetherbee Coll.
Bray & Co. Auctions is pleased to offer the collection of Martha Wetherbee, one of the leading authorities on Shaker baskets. Carefully assembled over fifty years, this remarkable collection includes dozens of rare and historically significant examples, some acquired directly from Shaker sisters themselves. As a master basketmaker, noted scholar, and author of several groundbreaking books on the subject, Wetherbee brought an expert eye to every piece she acquired. Her lifelong dedication to preserving and celebrating this unique American tradition is reflected throughout the collection. Rounding out the sale are baskets by other makers from Maine, New Hampshire, and Nantucket.
