Antique & Modern Jewellery
Offering almost 600 lots of jewellery dating from the mid 19th century right up to precious creations of the present day, April's Antique & Modern Jewellery auction has some real treasures for you to peruse. The rings on our front cover perfectly illustrate just how different two antique three-stone rings can be. Lot 204 (left) is simply set with three graduated old-cut diamonds, which gives a dazzling, classic look. Lot 425 (right), however, is a burst of multi coloured opals, changing with
every tilt of the hand.
Other noteworthy rings include lot 339; a rectangular-shape diamond of just over 3cts, as well as a good selection of simple single-stones of various sizes and cuts (lots 18, 84, 127, 269 and 456 to name a few). With so many stunning pieces to adorn the lady, gentlemen's jewellery often gets overlooked. This sale hopes to go some way to correct this with 12 lots of variously designed cufflinks. Highlights include our fabulou s back-cover pair from the 1930s decorated with various
hunting scenes (lot 43), two pairs by Bulgari (lots 278 and 279) and a pair of fine rock crystal cufflinks with diamond highlights (lot 201). Our designer section offers jewels from designer houses including Tiffany, Bulgari, Fope and Boodles, as well as lesser known creators such as Pasquale Bruni and Micha Bunz. Some jewels are traditionally encrusted with sparkling diamonds, others employing more modern techniques and materials such as examples from Stephen Webster's "Crystal Haze" rage: a unique way of using rock crystal and other semiprecious stones such as heamatite.
