Irene Roosevelt Aitken: The Library, Bedrooms and Objects of Vertu
In a landmark series of sales to take place in February 2026, Christie's is proud to present the contents of one of the last great treasure houses of New York. On day three, Irene Roosevelt Aitken: Library, Bedrooms and Objects of Vertu, is led by a group of antique European firearms from the collection of Russell B. Aitken. The sale further features the English furniture and decorative arts from both the library and bedrooms at 990 Fifth Avenue, with a fine selection of English and European gold boxes, Fabergé works of art and further examples from Irene Aitken's extraordinary collection of works of art by Matthew Boulton.
Irene Aitken was a true devotee of the arts and, to further her legacy of generosity, proceeds of the collection will go to the three New York cultural institutions closest to her heart: The Metropolitan Museum of Art, The Frick Collection and The Morgan Library & Museum.
