Day Two features modern and contemporary highlights, including Gustav Klimt’s rare I. Kunstausstellung – Secession, from the prominent Art & Design Collection of James and Rose Ryan, alongside scarce works by Carlos Schwabe. Additional prints and works on paper include works by Marc Chagall, Alexander Calder, Charles McGee, Romare Bearden, and Jim Dine. The sale includes a selection of 19th- and 20th-century paintings, including Frederic Soulacroix’s Courtship, Wilson Henry Irvine’s The Old House, Lyme, Conn., and works by Jan Walraven, Epaminondas Thomopoulos, Douglas Arthur Teed, Kent Wallis, and others. The catalog concludes with an extensive selection of Pewabic Pottery from the personal collection of Thomas W. Brunk. Highlights include rare early pieces by Mary Chase Perry; a monumental 1913 vase from the collection of Mary Chase Perry Stratton; glaze samples and test vases; tiles from the James Scott Memorial Fountain; and works associated with William Buck Stratton. Brunk’s holdings also included objects from the collection of Charles Lang Freer. The selection is complemented by George E. Ohr pottery and medieval Persian vessels.
