Antiques & Fine Art
Our largest antiques sale of recent times at over 1100 lots includes a wide range of items to suit all pockets. We commence with a selection of glassware led by a fine Rene Lalique 'Domremy' pattern vase in rare red colour, circa 1926. Also featured are a group of Georgian cordial glasses for more traditional tastes. Over 100 lots of ceramics include a group of Royal Worcester porcelain plates and vases, as well as pieces by Royal Doulton, Carlton, 18th century Derby, 19th century Meissen and so on. The Orientel ceramics section also offers a superb large blanc-de-chine figure of Kwanyin (Guanyin), Goddess of Mercy.
The 300-lot selection of Collector's Items features everything from Mont Blanc pens to Indian ivory baskets, an interesting group of Oriental bronzes and jade, walking sticks, chess sets and much more. The book section contains a torrid love letter from Prince Edward (the future Edward VIII) to his mistress Freda Dudley Ward, the lady with whom his was smitten prior to meeting Wallis Simpson. In addition, there are a good range of Natural History and other books from the 16th to the 20th centuries. The toy section has a good group of privately-consigned bisque-headed dolls, as well as a group of Marklin trains. A further 100 lots of paintings features good oil paintings by Schram, Tanoux, Franz Goethe, Payton of Warwick, and Georgian bird watercolours by Isaac Spackman. Around 100 clocks also feature several excellent longcases including London examples - in mulberry, chinoiserie and a domestic regulator, plus a rare Liverpool brick base. Smaller clocks include Georgian and later bracket clocks as well as a high-quality modern table regulator by Sinclair Harding.
