Antique & Modern Jewellery

A piece of interest is our front cover lot, a mid 19th century enamel and gem-set brooch. This exceptional piece is embellished with a central ruby cabochon and rose-cut diamond highlights. As with many revivalist pieces, this brooch displays an eclectic but well thought out medley of design styles. The predominant influence comes from the Gothic, but more unusually, this brooch also displays the influences of Indian architectural design. The top reflects the outline of minarets, found throughout the Indian subcontinent and the style of flowers hark to the warmer climes of Turkey and India. The brooch, although unsigned, could be seen as reminiscent of the designs of Falize, a prominent jeweller documented to travel through India amongst other countries was greatly influenced by Eastern art and in particular by cloisonné enamel work. If you are looking for a ring rather than a brooch, then we have a wide range of rings to suit most tastes. Lot 161 is not a rock to be missed, weighing an impressive 5.02 carats, the dazzling stone is sure to interest our bidders and has a guide price of £20,000-30,000. Another diamond of note is lot 149, at 2.01 carats with D colour and VS2 clarity, it is set with two pink diamonds to the gallery, a really unique and pretty variation on the traditional solitaire, offered at £14,000-20,000. Smaller but just as beautiful highlights include lot 89, another chic variation of the traditional diamond single-stone engagement ring, featuring a beautiful pink sapphire within a diamond border, estimated at £300-400.
