The private collection, formerly housed in a Federal house along the banks of the scenic Susquehanna River, features English and Continental furniture and decorations. The fine art is diverse and includes American works, such as the oil on canvas, by Daniel Garber, (American, 1880-1958), the pencil drawing, attributed to Fritz Vogt, titled “The Cherry Valley Female Academy” and a nicely patinated Fisk-attributed zinc- and copper Running Horse Weathervane, late 19th century. A watercolor of a house by English painter, Christopher Wood, (1901-1930) is a nice highlight on paper. Garden ornament includes a metal figure of a horse, a monumental pair of cast stone urns, a carved limestone figure of a recumbent setter, and a pair of Doric white-painted architectural columns. The furniture features two Victorian bent metal rocking chairs, attributed to R. W. Winfied & Company of England. More formal pieces are the George III mahogany chest-on-chest, a Regency brass-and-mahogany ladies’ writing desk, a Louis XVI marble top commode, a Louis XV needle-point upholstered carved walnut settee, numerous examples of period French and English seating furniture, and a Victorian leather-upholstered armchair with figural dog-carved arm terminals. Some of the sterling silver includes a three-piece vintage Jensen coffee service and an elaborate Martele for Gorham four-piece coffee service and tray, 20th century. The Royal Danish pattern flatware by International, an erotic silver shallow dish, signed Maillol on the verso, and the Grand Colonial flatware by Wallace are part of the silver offering.
