Highlighting the May 26 auction of American Art will be The Faenza Jar by Marsden Hartley. This circa 1912 oil on canvas was exhibited in Atlanta at the High Museum's 1986 exhibition “Advent of Modernism”. Another featured painting in the sale is the colorful oil on canvas, Boats and Car Track, circa 1915, by William James Glackens. James Edward Buttersworth, known for his marine paintings, is represented by a masterful harbor scene of tall ships, Shipping in a Port. Certain to attract attention is the intriguing painting, Nocturne, Provincetown, Massachusetts, 1900, by Childe Hassam, as well as the serene Portrait of a Young Boy by Eastman Johnson.
