Slotin Folk Art Auction is the premier auction house for Self-taught Art, Folk Art, Southern Folk Pottery and Antique and Anonymous Works. This February 11th Sale, Slotin will branch out and feature 821 lots of Incredible African Art, International and Native American Works, Pottery, Quilts, Furniture, The Estate of Margaret Mitchell from the Atlanta Museum and other important Antiques and Folk Art. The first 186 lots of important African Art are the lifetime collection of Mr. Hubert Wehling. This premier collection was shaped by not only the careful eye of Mr. Wehling, but many influential people who helped him along the way including, Harmer Johnson, former VP of Sotheby's in charge of Tribal Arts, John Buxton, expert in Tribal Arts for PBS's Antique Roadshow, Bill Mercer, former Curator of Tribal Arts at the Cincinnati Art Museum and vetted for quality by Dr. Roy Seiber, world-renown expert in the field of African Art History. In addition to world-class African Art, this auction includes hundreds of lots of wonderful International pieces from Haiti, Trinidad, Germany, Guatamala, Yugoslavia, Dublin, Austria, Brazil, Jamaica, Costa Rica, Mexico, Bali, San Blas Islands, Cuba, Aboriginal Art, Japan, China, and other countries from around the world. Also included are several hundred lots of fine American Paintings, Artworks and Furniture, both old and new. There is a nice selection of Fraternal pieces, Trade Signs, and Prison Art. More than 100 pieces of Native American Works will be featured in this sale including very nice pieces of Native pottery and Basketry, Native American Rugs and Blankets, Kachinas, and old arrowheads. 30 lots of fine Wisconsin Pottery pieces, and 32 lots of incredible handmade quilts are included in this sale. For the American History buff, there is a fun selection of pieces from the Atlanta Museum which include everything from personal items owned by Capt. William Plane of the Confederate Army, to the Granite drinking Fountain from the Loew's Theatre, to a 48-star flag, to an original Calistoga Wagon, to a 1936 Bowl Game Football. And of course, the Estate of Margaret Mitchell which was one display for many years at the Atlanta Museum. This Estate will be sold as one lot and includes hundreds of personal items owned by the famed author of Gone With The Wind. Most notably, this lot will include several furniture items from Mitchell's home on Peachtree Street (with photos of Mitchell sitting on two of the items) and original movie programs and premier party ticket stubs. This is an important and historically signficant lot for the anyone interested in obtaining a true piece of history.
