Two-Day Fine Estate Auction

Our February auction will include furniture represented by virtually every major style and country, including the Louis XV, XVI, Renaissance Revival, Empire, Henri II and Provincial styles of France; also the Chippendale, Sheraton, Victorian, Hepplewhite, Edwardian and Georgian styles of England. Featured will be a well-carved 19th century George I style mahogany armchair; a fine George III style figured walnut fold-over concertina game table with needlepoint playing surface, circa 1870; a magnificent Louis XV style bronze mounted center table with elaborate marquetry inlay, circa 1880; a late 18th century country French oak two-door marriage armoire; and a superb pair of Chinese carved soapstone mounted rosewood two-part cabinets. This comprehensive sale will showcase an excellent array of 18th, 19th and 20th century paintings, watercolors, drawings, lithographs and other fine art, including works by Francis Day, Paolo Bedini, Max Schoedl (a pair of oils by this artist will be offered), Alex de Andreis, Reed Henry, Lazlo Neogrady, J. W. Thrasher, Wayman Adams, Gustav von Bechtolsheim, Ernest Bradshaw and many others. Also included will be an outstanding selection of 19th and 20th century Chinese carved ivory figures and groups, including a pair modeled as warriors in horse drawn chariots, a carved and veneered emperor’s carriage, over 30 inches in length, and an exceptional intricately carved basket of flowers. Additionally included is a rare collection of 18th century Chinese Export porcelain tea caddies, a superb selection of Victorian sterling silver and tortoiseshell boxes, card cases and snuff boxes, R. Lalique art glass sculptures including a 19 inch height sculpture of the Crucifixion and a lamp depicting the Virgin Mary. Not to be overlooked is a superb group of bronzes, including examples by Jean Baptiste Pigalle, Ludovic-Eugene Durand, Edward Drouot, a Meiji period Japanese patinated bronze sculpture of a seated geisha, and a selection of small bronze figures, also marble sculpture, sets of china, crystal, an extensive and fine selection of antique and modern sterling silver and silverplate, including an excellent group of Reed & Barton “Francis I” serving pieces, and a set of four George III English sterling individual salts by David and Robert Hennell, hallmarked London, 1771. Also porcelains, mirrors, chandeliers, candelabra, lamps and other objects of art, including a superb 19th century three-piece bronze dore’ and Sevres porcelain figural clock suite signed Lenoir a Paris. Finally, a collection of estate and designer jewelry and a wonderful selection of estate and new Oriental rugs and tapestries will also be included.
