Art from Ancient Cultures & Tribes

This auction brings together arts and crafts from India and China, as well as those from indigenous people, and modern items which refer back to the traditions of earlier cultures. The bronze head of the Nandi and the 19th century mount of Shiva are particular highlights. Additional highlights are a large stone head of the deity Guanyin from the Tang Dynasty, and an earthenware figure of a standing fisherman from the Han Dynasty. Remarkable items from the modern period are a pair of 20th century silk paintings, 35 folios from a devotional compilation including illustrated episodes related to the Bhagavat Gita, the Ramayana, and other narratives and gilt bronze of the deity Usnisavijaya. Enjoy the selection of substantial arts and crafts of earlier cultures, and witness their effect on the modern age.
