Historic James Street Mansion Burman Estate
Most items at this auction descended in the family of renowned chemist Ernst Berl. Professor Berl was Germany's leading chemist during the 1930s. He was also Jewish. As the Nazis rose in power Dr. Berl lost his teaching position at Darmstadt University. He was offered positions in Austria and at The Carnegie Institute of Technology in Pittsburg, PA . He accepted the Carnegie offer. Berl emigrated to the U.S.A., along with his wife, Agnes, in 1934 taking many of their personal belongings with them. The Berl's were serious Art and Object Collectors. A portion of their original collection survives intact through direct family inheritance and will be sold at this amazing sale !!
