Mr. Ward was born in Benton County, Mississippi in 1930. He moved to his home in the Gravestown community when it was built in 1938 and began working for the Ford dealership at Ripley in 1949. He later became a business partner in 1964 and was involved in its operation the rest of his life along with many other business interest.
Gene began collecting cut glass, his first love, in the early 1960?s. He later expanded his purchases to antique furniture, silver, porcelain and other objects d'art. He traveled extensively in his lifetime often making trips to Europe, New York, Chicago, New Orleans, Montreal and San Francisco where he acquired much of his collection.
Gene added a wing to the rear of his home in the early 1980?s, providing him with additional living and dining space, along with a paneled den with showcases to display his acquisitions. His home and its contents stands as a monument to his love of beauty and desire for gracious living.
