Fine Asian Ceramics and Works of Art

This Asian Art auction is a stunning exploration of the interpretations of the ceramic body in bold and vivid colors. The sale features a group of Satsuma masterworks from a private New York collection. Among these highlights of Meiji ceramics is a marvelous diamond-shaped box with alternating paintings of birds and populated landscape scenes, signed by Matsumoto Hôzan. Another vase from the same studio with Ruyi-shaped feet, depicts the famous Hasedera Temple in Kamakura with its turning sutra rack (rinzô). Additionally, Satsuma pieces of various shapes and sizes display the infinite creativity of the Meiji ceramic artists. This exceptional selection of Chinese ceramics and porcelains is illustrated by a splendid turquoise-ground narcissus bowl from the Qianlong period and an expressive Flambé bottle vase with bamboo neck. This enticing offer of ceramics is complemented by excellent jade carvings, and attractive and unusual export silver items.
