September Fine and Decorative Arts Auction

The September auction at Nye includes a large array of fine art from a variety of consignors and estates. Of the more than 500 lots, the highlights include property approved for deaccession from the Newark Museum, a Short Hills, New Jersey estate and an estate from New York City all sporting intentionally conservative estimates to spur interest and bidding. The auction at Nye consists of an excellent array of fine art. The New York couple selling a collection put together by the previous generation includes a terrific maritime scene by Leon Kroll, a nocturnal ship painting by James G. Tyler and a cast bronze by Gutzon Borglum ? creator of National Monument Mount Rushmore. The same family is selling fine American furniture and sterling silver. The large number of Folk Art portraits and naïve farm scenes were in a collection in Short Hills, New Jersey. The images vary from formal to country and from American to European. They span the gamut of interest, age and subject matter, but because demand isn?t what it once was, estimates are low. Three different New Jersey consignors are providing the Civil War swords and the antique fire arms. The Tiffany bronze lamps are from two different consignors, one is an excellent estate in Harding Township, while the other is from South Orange. There are pieces from the Estate of Marie Garibaldi, the former Associate Justice for the Supreme Court of New Jersey. Her items include ormolu-mounted urns, Tiffany-Style hearth equipment and several pieces in the manner of Oscar Bach.
