April 8 - Estate Auction
Eclectic treasures from San Francisco's iconic gay bar, the Lion Pub, are among the unique highlights of the April Estate Auction. A Pacific Heights LGBTQ landmark for 48 years, the Lion Pub was owned and operated by Kelly Ellis, whose estate includes Chinoiserie style furniture, gilt mirrors, the Pub's eponymous lion statues and multiple copies of its notorious poster. A collection of fine paintings, including landscapes and a seascape, are also offered from this estate. Additional April 8 auction lots include the pair of exemplary woodblock prints by Kawase Hasui, elegant French furniture and wall sconces, the Philip and Kelvin Laverne rectangular coffee table and the George Nelson bentwood wall clock. For collectors of fine silver there are candelabra and a handsome menorah, the Japanese Asahi Shoten sterling cocktail set, and Reed & Barton's "Love Disarmed" sterling flatware. Gorgeous diamonds set in platinum, Victorian brooches of gold and garnets, and the Cartier "Santos" wristwatch are among the jewelry lots. As always, the auction includes paintings and sculpture in a wide range of styles and values. A special treat in this sale is the collection of luxurious gowns, suits and coats by Chanel, YSL, Lilli Ann and many more from the estate of San Francisco philanthropist and designer Jeanne Taylor.
