Prehistoric and Historic Artifact Auction

This sale contains a remarkable and varied group of fine artifacts. Of note is a Southern Obtuse Angle Pipe that was on display in the Smithsonian in the 1970's, a perfect Double Crescent Bannerstone that was pictured in the 1930's (Knoblock), 40's and 50's, an 8 inch Hixton Agate Basin (Townsend, Beutell and much more. The majority of the artifacts being offered are from the Dr. Joe Otten collection. Joe collected for decades before retiring from his practice in Batavia, New York. His collection is filled with Decaturs, Dovetails, Texas masterpieces and points made from exotic materials. All of Joe?s artifacts are well documented and many are pictured. A vast majority of the Otten Collection has COAs from nationally recognized and respected authenticators (200 items in this auction have independent COAs). This auction also features the John Davidson Collection. I first met John some 20 years ago. During the past two decades, he amassed a very fine and varied artifact collection consisting of quality Axes, Bannerstones, Pipes and much more. John had a good eye for quality artifacts. We are also pleased to introduce the Art and Sally Tatum Collection. A collection over 60 years in the making, it centered around fine ceramic art from various cultures. You'll see the Mimbres Tadpole Bowl and one of the finest Hohokam Olla's we've seen. A sizable group of Townsend artifacts sold at the January 2013 Earl Townsend sale will be offered in this auction - including Townsend?s superb 14 piece Records Turkeytail Cache. Well known in the artifact collecting community, Jim Beckman has decided its time to part with some of his favorite artifacts. Included in this offering are Jim?s ?Bravard? Hopewell, several Horsefly Bush Cache Blades and a fine Axe found with them.
