Fine and Decorative Arts Including Americana

Cowan's Fine and Decorative Art, Including Americana: Live Salesroom Auction will feature a wide array of exceptional items ranging from American furniture, to fine silver and rugs, to American and European paintings. Two collections of early American furniture from Colorado and Michigan are particularly noteworthy, with highlights including a Massachusetts Queen Anne Highboy (lot 157), two early American William and Mary Carved Side Chairs, both illustrated in Nutting's Furniture Treasury, Vol. II (lots 249 and 251), and a Kentucky Sugar Chest (lot 221). Additionally, the auction will feature a fine Buccellati Sterling Tureen (lot 51), a Rare 1831 English Intarsia Patchwork Pictorial Table Cover (lot 175), a Botanical Watercolor by Georg Dionys Ehret (lot 104), and a Fine and Rare Timothy Tansel Engraved Horn Beaker (lot 194). The auction will also feature a fine selection of paintings. Significant highlights will include a portrait of an Indian by Henry Farny (lot 28), a distinctive cellar scene by David Gilmour Blythe (lot 36), a pastoral landscape by Susan Caroline Moore Waters (lot 10), a portrait of Elizabeth Stuart, Queen of Bohemia, attributed to Gerrit van Honthorst (lot 110), a Lansdowne-type portrait of George Washington after Gilbert Stuart (lot 163), and other portraits by or attributed to prominent artists such as Thomas Barber and Thomas Sully. Furthermore, the auction will include a collection of bronzes by Harriet Frishmuth (lots 22-25).
