Fine Art of the Ohio Valley: Online Auction

Cowan's is proud to celebrate the rich artistic history of the Ohio Valley Region with a fine art auction exclusively devoted to 19th and 20th century artists who began or developed their careers in the area, including southwestern Ohio (Cincinnati and Dayton), southern Indiana (Richmond and Hoosier Schools), and northern Kentucky (Louisville, Covington, Bellevue, etc). Cincinnati artists featured in the auction include Frances Farrand Dodge, Edward Henry Potthast, William Merritt Chase, Paul Ashbrook, E. T. Hurley, Charles Meurer, Emma Mendenhall, Ida Carmichael, John Ruthven, and others. Among the Indiana artists highlighted, familiar names include Frank Girardin, George Jo Mess, Oscar Erickson, George Herbert Baker, William Arnold Eyden, and Charles Conner. The work of several Kentucky artists is also represented in the auction, such as Paul Plaschke, Norman Kohlhepp, Constance Clark Willis, Harlan Hubbard, and Harvey Joiner. Specific highlights include a vibrant view of the Central Bridge in Cincinnati by Frances Farrand Dodge, a western landscape by Edward Henry Potthast, depictions of wildlife by John Ruthven, a modernist rendering of the Ohio river with steamboat and horses by Norman Kohlhepp, a Clifty Falls, IN., scene by Paul Plaschke, various charming still lifes and pastoral scenes by Charles Meurer, and a number of oils and watercolors by Paul Ashbrook. Additionally, the auction features three-dimensional objects, including a stylized bronze horse by Norman Kohlhepp, a variety of Rookwood vases, and Cincinnati and Louiville coin and sterling silver pieces.
