The majority of this sale originated from the residence of one seller, who resided in both New York City and Elizabeth, New Jersey. The seller was a brilliant academic at heart who spoke over sixteen languages and was at the top of his chosen profession. We have an outstanding assortment of rare and unusual items from this estate and other select consignments to be offered at auction consisting of many interest groups.
DAY 1: Early Books- Approximately 2500 books cataloged into 450+ lots, Many very rare hard to find volumes going back as early as 1560! Several different languages including English, French and Latin among others. Interests groups including: American History, The Civil War, The Early American Colonies, Law, Religions, Poetry, and the Classics to name a few. Authors including: Maupassant, Picard, Shakespeare, Mishna, Thackeray, Wentworth, Cicero, Giannone, Josephus, Raynal, Pope, Bayle, Middleton, Pozzo, Baluze, Nevill, Twain, Hawthorne, Beecher Stowe, Chaucer, Irving, Austen, Dumas, and Booker T. Washington.
DAY 2: Tool Collection- Primarily dating to the 17th, 18th and 19th Centuries and grouped into 350+ lots including: blacksmith made hinges, early ironwork, mechanical tools, early Stanley collectables, hardware, assorted copperware, spider trivets and pots, draw knives, lock sets, candy press machine, wood working tools, bit sets, and much, much more! Many rare and hard to find items.
DAY 3: This collection of items represents one of the best assortments of antiques to be offered for auction in this part of Virginia in some time. A few items of note will be a rare life size 19th Century tack shop advertising horse, period Duncan Phyfe sofa table, Edward Priestley Pier table, excellent pair of early19th Century portraits, clocks by Tiffany & Co., Carl Suchy, etc, fire backs, New York sideboard with bottle drawers, rare mechanical banks, and more!
