Verizon's Telephone Pioneers Museum Auction
Bruneau & Co. Auctioneers is proud to announce a historical telephone and technology auction consisting of two deaccessioned collections of Verizon's Telephone Pioneers of America Museums. The Auction will offer the collections of the Alexander K. McLellan Chapter No.40, Providence, Rhode Island and the Excelsior Chapter No.98, Buffalo, New York. The auction will feature over 300 catalogued lots beginning at 11:00am Saturday, August 4th with a 150 lot presale beginning at 10:00am, in house bidding only. The auction offers an extensive array of 19th and 20th century telephones highlighted by a model 1893 Clark candlestick switchboard telephone and 1953 Western Electric model 302 rose color desk telephone. Other telephone highlights include a 1913 Western Electric presentational nickel candlestick telephone and a presentation nickel plated telephone to historical long-distance lineman G. J. Guthrie Nicholson Jr. The auction will open with President Dwight D. Eisenhower's Western Electric teal desk telephone from the Summer White House, Newport, Rhode Island. Technological highlights include early examples of Alexander Graham Bell's first long distance receiver and one of A.G. Bell and Thomas A. Watson's early patent prototype telephones. In total there are over 100 lots of telephone and other related technology and equipment. The auction offers so much diversity and history there is too much to list!
