Swann Galleries’ Tuesday, October 19 sale of Important 19th & 20th Century Photographs is rich in Civil War material and classic images by renowned photographers. The auction opens with a large selection of 19th century items, including an assortment of fine daguerreotypes and images by Mathew Brady, Lewis Carroll and Carleton Watkins. Among the 20th century highlights are important photographs by Diane Arbus, Berenice Abbott, Ansel Adams, Eugene Atget, Richard Avedon, Edward Curtis, Alfred Eisenstaedt, Walker Evans, August Sander, Aaron Siskind and Josef Sudek.
