October 13 | Gallery Auction

Featuring property deaccessioned from The de Young Museum, San Francisco, CA. A rare opportunity for collectors, designers, and all who love vintage fashion is coming to Michaan’s in October. The monthly Gallery Auction on October 13 features more than 200 vintage hats recently deaccessioned from the Textile Arts collection of San Francisco’s The de Young Museum. The arc of history is reflected in this exquisite millinery, from Civil War bonnets to Victorian bridal wear, and from roaring twenties cloches to Kennedy-era pillboxes. A wide-brimmed black straw hat with bow, very “Breakfast at Tiffany’s,” is estimated at $50-$80. October highlights also include Picasso’s ceramic work, “Visage de Femme” ($20,000-$25,000) and two sun-drenched landscape paintings by Fernando Amorsolo — one a large oil, the other a small watercolor. Collectors of California art won’t want to miss the two fabulous mid-century paintings by Roland Petersen. Ravishing diamonds from a Ross, CA estate include an emerald-cut ring estimated at $30,000-$50,000. Also in jewelry: over fifty lots of Native American jewelry from a longtime New Mexico collector. Tiffany Studios favrile glass, fine sterling tableware and Versace porcelain are featured. Huanghuali spindle back armchairs are highlights in Asian art with a gilt bronze bodhisattva, a pair of cloisonné cranes, scroll paintings and fine pottery also in the spotlight.
