Featuring over 600 lots of antique American ceramics, our Fall 2018 sale presents a large number of previously-undocumented or resurfaced pieces, many of which are worthy of the most discriminating public and private collections. Among our densest in quality ever held, this auction is highlighted by a large selection of Anna Pottery stoneware, headlined by a legendary "8 to 7" snake jug, a published work of art, which was last sold over a quarter of a century ago. Other important Anna creations to be offered are special Kirkpatrick family pieces that have never been sold before, having been consigned by a direct descendant of Anna Pottery founder, Cornwall Elihu Kirkpatrick I. Lot 1, an Edgefield, SC face jug made its grand debut within the American ceramics community when it was displayed by the consignor in a groundbreaking 1974 exhibit, and is presented here as a newly-rediscovered example. From a vastly different time and place, a recently-surfaced Manhattan, NY stoneware flask is among the earliest intact examples of American stoneware known, a colonial object produced by a member of the highly-influential Crolius family. Other highlights include newly-discovered Southern rarities by Dave, Solomon Loy, and Edward Webster, a large-sized Central Pennsylvania stoneware memorial urn with two-color-slip decoration, strikingly-decorated examples of Ohio stoneware, exceptional Harrisburg, PA stoneware, a strong selection of Shenandoah Valley regional pottery, along with many others.
