Aurora 2007 Golden Age of Aviation Auction

This wonderful collection of aviation memorabilia spans the "Golden Age of Aviation" and includes autographs, trophies and other items from some of the most famous balloonists and pilots of the era, including, among others, balloonists William Kepner and Roy Knabenshue, French pilots Rene Labouret and Louis Paulhan, American aviators Wilbur Wright, Frank Lahm, Roscoe Turner, Hap Arnold, George Beverly, Jimmie Doolittle, Frank Hawks, Casey Jones, and Eddie Rickenbacker as well as aviatrixes Amelia Earhart, Matilde Moisant and Bernetta Miller. Of special note is one of the two original trophies presented to famed aviators Wiley Post and Harold Gatty for their record setting round the world flight in 1931 (Lot 41). The crowning jewel of this auction is the original artist's model of the 1930 Thompson Trophy (Lot 114), arguably the most famous trophy in unlimited class air racing. Many of the items in this sale come from the collection of pilot Scot Douglas, a noted aviation enthusiast and long time collector. We invite you to review the lots included in this sale and read the stories behind these famous aviation pioneers, which are just as inspiring today as they were during aviation's Golden Age.
