Bennett's Ancient Indian Artifact Auction
Featured in this sale are artfacts from the collection of Mervin Elijah Oakes. Dr. Oakes was born in Lecompton Kansas in 1892 and grew up in Westerville, Ohio. Dr. Oakes married in 1919 and throughout his carreer resided in Arizona, New Mexico, California and both North and South Carolina. Although Dr. Oakes continued to collect artifacts into the 1960's, a large portion of his collection was wrapped in 1930's newspapers and put into storage until just recently. In a 1962 biography published about Dr. Oakes, he states under hobbies that he began collecting artifacts at age 11, and collected into the 1960's.
Another collection featured in this sale is the collection of Brian Sauer. Mr. Sauer collected more recently than Dr. Oakes, assembling a nicely rounded collection of artifacts, many from the Ohio Valley area.
In addition to the above mentioned collections, other quality consignments have been selected from reputable collectors and dealers to help round-out this sale of Authentic Artifacts.
