Around the World in 80+ Lots
Oakridge Auction Gallery is pleased to announce our October 2019 Around the World in 80 (+) Lots Auction, which will be held on October 19, 2019, beginning at 10 am EST. This auction, coordinated by the Department of European & American Art & Antiques at Oakridge, will feature over 500 lots from Africa, East and Southeast Asia, the Middle East, Europe, and the Americas spanning several centuries of artistic and artisan production.
This virtual globe-trot will begin with historic maps of our DC metropolitan region and then continue on through American art glass and ceramics, as well as a small yet significant collection of Native American artworks, including prints by the contemporary Inuit artists Pudlo Pudlat and Pitaloosie Saila. Heading across the Atlantic, this tour includes antiquarian books, fine European paintings, French porcelain, Russian icons, and a selection of Central Asian textiles and manuscript paintings; the journey then continues into Africa before wending through Asia, including Chinese Tang, Qing, and Republic Period ceramics and porcelains; Japanese wakizashi and woodblock prints, and Southeast Asian paintings and statuary. Our final stop in Latin America highlights the fine silver production of Argentina and the work of artist Oswaldo Guayasamin.
The auction ends with a feature selection of collectible coins, watches, and fine jewelry. We are particularly pleased to include early casts of the more monumental works of both Jacques Lipchitz and the Taiwanese sculptor Ju Ming, and a striking portrait of Princess Diana by the contemporary Chinese artist Huang Yan.
