Cowan's Auctions, a Hindman Company, is delighted to present the June 26 American Historical Ephemera and Photography Auction, including 55 lots devoted to the African American experience (Lots 1-55), over 175 lots dating from the Civil War Era, ranging from photographs to manuscript archives (Lots 66-240), and more than 60 lots documenting life in the American West (Lots 323-385). The auction is headlined by a selection of Brown Water Navy Photographs from the Richard B. Cohen Civil War Collection (Lots 133-162); an assortment of daguerreotypes, ambrotypes, CDVs, and large format photographs from the Eugene R. Groves Collection of 19th Century Photography, many with African American and Civil War subject matter taken by Louisiana photographers such as Jacobs, McPherson & Oliver, and Lytle; and Civil War broadsides and folk art carved pipes from N. Flayderman & Co. (Lots 219-226, and 235-238). Additional highlights include a US Navy Archive Featuring Correspondence of Christopher Raymond Perry Rodgers, Incl. Mexican War, Indian War, and Civil War Content (Lot 187); Civil War Archive of John Merritt Morse, NH 3rd Infantry and US Army Signal Corps (Lot 188); Previously Unknown Quarter Plate Daguerreotype of Career Army Officer and CSA General Braxton Bragg (Lot 69); Half Plate Daguerreotype of Franklin Pierce by Root (Lot 261); and a rare Period Tintype of Abraham Lincoln: The "Beardstown Portrait" (Lot 301). A group of scarce boudoir photographs by A.F. Randall of Geronimo, Natchez, and General Nelson Miles at Fort Bowie, Arizona Territory are also included (Lots 354-359) as well as a Photograph Album Documenting Daily Life at the Rosebud Indian Reservation, South Dakota, by Ella J. DeBell (Lot 351).
