Books etc. - WWI Posters, History, Theology

This large auction will include a broad range of books and ephemera items from area estates and consignments. The catalog includes 453 lots, offering approximately 1,500 volumes along with close to 200 original World War One propaganda posters from a single collection. This will be our first session of selling posters from this collection, a second session will be conducted in the spring. The books in this auction are primarily related to history and theology. They range from modern to antique and include many signed and important editions.

Highlights of this auction include a 1731 printing of John Gray'sTreatise of Gunnery, a 1795 printing of Samuel Crumpe'sEssay on the Best Means of Providing Employment for the People, a signed first edition of George W. Coe's Frontier Figher: The Autobiography of George W. Coe Who Fought and Rode with Billy the Kid, and an 1814 printing of Samuel Wood'sRemarks on Robert Scott's Examination of the Doctrines and Principles of the People Called Quakers. Also featured are several important atlases and maps, early slavery and Native American-related titles and a variety of rare titles relating to American history, including Civil War writings.

The World War One posters that we will begin offering at this auction come from a very well-preserved collection of approximately 400 pieces. The posters are all originals and show beautifully. Most have never been hung, the colors are bright and unfaded. The posters feature stunning artwork by artists such as Francisque Poulbot, Jules Abel Faivre, Adolph Treidler, Sidney H. Riesenberg, Howard Chandler Christy, Haskell Coffin, Harrison Fisher and Achille Marzan. There are also posters which display artwork by Dutch artist Louis Raemaekers, for whom the German government offered a reward of 12,000 guilders, dead or alive.
