MAGIC: Marketplace Auction

Potter & Potter Auctions will conduct a Marketplace Auction of magic ephemera and memorabilia on January 18th, 2009 in suburban Chicago. Previews will be held on January 17th. Of special note are two choice pieces of historical significance: a fan used by and obtained from Chung Ling Soo on the night of his fateful performance at London's Wood Green Empire; and a set of Sand Canisters used by the inimitable Harry Blackstone, Sr. (and manufactured by the firm of Carl Willmann of Hamburg, Germany. Other featured lots include an outstanding collection of autographs, Houdiniana (photographs, books and autographs), gambling devices and books, scrapbooks and a choice selection of vintage English theatre broadsides and playbills. The sale will also include choice apparatus used by Stanley Collins and Howard Thurston, as well as books, memorabilia, photographs and posters. Ephemera associated with Buatier deKolta, Washington Irving Bishop, Horace Goldin, the Maskelyne Family, Charles DeVere, Adelaide Herrmann, Chung Ling Soo, Thurston, Kellar and others will also be included.
