Arms & Armor Auction

Lewis & Grant Auctions is pleased to offer an eclectic grouping of highly desirable and rare items for the most discerning collectors. Preview available online at LewisAndGrant.com. Opening the auction is a collection of Medieval and Renaissance arms and armor, the equal to which has not been seen in the United States in over a decade. This collection features rare, fine condition swords, rapiers, hammers, daggers, and armor, including a Continental Hand and a Half Sword (Lot 3), a fine Italian Eared Dagger (Lot 8), and a Two-Handed Broadsword (Lot 11). Also crossing the block will be a selection of exceptional Saxon Swords (Lots 12, 13) and sets of Continental Armor and Helmets (Lots 32-41). We are privileged to present selections from the collection of distinguished film producer John D. Schofield (Lots 116-196). Mr. Schofield served as a Producer and Production Manager for famous films such as "Jerry Maguire" (1996), "As Good as it Gets" (1997), "Enemy at the Gates" (2000), and "Ali" (2001). A collector with a wide range of interests, this auction offers selections from his collection that highlight his passion for history, including a Half-Suit of European Armor (Lot 116) and two pairs of fine English Dueling Pistols (Lots 121, 122). Also included in this selection are several fine European military helmets and accoutrements, highlighting Mr. Schofield's special love for French militaria. To finish, a collection of American arms, both military and civilian. Of particular note are several engraved Colt Revolvers by Howard Dove (Lots 221, 222), the later of which is easily one of the finest custom-engraved Colts in existence. Also for offer in this auction are rare U.S. military arms such as a S&W American Revolver (Lot 231), a rare Merrill conversion of a Harpers Ferry Rifle (Lot 254), a Morse Conversion Rifle (Lot 264), and a rare 36" Barrel Sharps 1859 Rifle (Lot 278).
