Jack Solomon Collection of Brilliant Glass
Hindman is excited to announce the June 16 auction of fine cut glass from the Collection of Jack Solomon. The auction will include large vases, punch sets, centerpiece bowls, and other serving articles attributed to leading firms of the Brilliant period. Jack Solomon, a Veteran of the United States Air Force, is a self-made entrepreneur and began his career in the electronics surplus business. Later, Mr. Solomon would serve numerous U.S. Presidents as an experienced advisor.
Mr. Solomon began collecting glass because paintings by European Masters seemed out of reach, but fine glass made by master cutters was approachable. His attraction to glass comes from the mediumÂ’s intrinsic beauty, whereas a canvas is not beautiful until it is painted. Mr. Solomon sought to surround himself with beauty and was especially attracted to things made by hand which could not be reproduced by a machine. Mr. SolomonÂ’s two homes are filled with extraordinary music boxes, European art glass in addition to the Brilliant glass included in this auction, porcelain, and other decorative arts.
