We list this information in general. The following legend used in this catalogue for condition is recognized by poster collectors and dealers and is taken from MOVIE POSTER PRICE ALMANAC edited by John Kisch (2002 Edition).brbr Mint (M) An unused poster. As pristine as the day it was printed with little exception (Though there may be some posters and lobby cards as well as photographs in this collection that are mint, we have not used this (M) code as a rule.brbr Near Mint (NM) Basically unused or carefully used showing some signs of age or storage but no abuse of any kind. Clean folds (standard and not considered a flaw for posters pre-1980). Post 1980 posters are rolled and the same standards apply. Linen backed posters with no restoration needed, fall into this category. Gallery Note Many posters in this auction which are linen backed may have been categorized as VF or VF-NM for no particular reason. They probably could have all been (NM) as outlined here but if anything we have chosen to downgrade condition in the interest of being on the side of caution. Paper is not brittle. Image is still striking and linen backed restoration more evident.brbr Very Good (VG) Below average, used, trimmed or weathered condition showing little paper loss, slight stains or soiling, larger pinholes, extra prominent folds, light ink or pen marks, tape on the back and prominent border damage. In November, 2009, Joanne Grant, principal auctioneer at Mid-Hudson Auction Galleries, announced the acquisition of THE GENE ANDREWSKI COLLECTION OF CINEMA for several auctions. The Andrewski collection consists of more than 20,000 items. Included are movie posters, lobby cards and window cards as well as jumbo, mini and midget cards. Gene Andrewski was largely responsible for introducing midget-window card collecting to the field. Also included are press books, promotional items and 30,000 photographs and negatives. In the cache of studio negatives are Marilyn Monroe rarities. Among the portraits of Hollywood Glamour Era actresses are several by Hurrell, Clarence Sinclair Bull, Elmer Fryer, Ernest Bachrach, Ray Jones, Willinger and other noted photographers. A substantial autograph collection is to be presented including inscribed photos, double stock and single weight as well as signed letters, contracts, scripts and other movie memorabilia. The 20's, 30's and 40's of Hollywood cinema are strongly represented in the Andrewski auctions. Gene Andrewski, who was born in Oklahoma, died in 2005 at the age of 77, after a highly successful career in the theater including the May 15, 1962 revival of Cole Porter's Anything Goes at the Orpheum Theater in New York City as well as the presentation of Sandy Wilson's Valmouth at the York Playhouse in New York in 1960. He knew the stars of Hollywood and Broadway and moved among them. Those things that he loved in the field of movie collecting were, as a result, more accessible to him than to most. He was a former managing editor of The Paris Review. He wrote, and contributed photographs to, many books including The MGM Stock Company-The Golden Era; The Rise of the Crooners and Mae West (A Pyramid Illustrated History of the Movies). An aficionado of Hollywood glamour and everything cinema related, Mr. Andrewski's collection speaks to that era of advertising .The collection is historical in that it ells the story of how dreams were marketed in early Hollywood. The posters had to attract the glimpse of the passer-by and capture the attention of the stroller in a moment. The lithography of the early posters is intense and spellbinding. Their message is difficult to capture in today's digital images and the posters become, indeed, vanishing works of art.
