Celebrating the history and diversity of the United States, our August Americana sale offers a selection of furniture, folk art and decorations that represent the decorative arts heritage of our nation. Highlights include a fine group of weather vanes, historical American prints and folk art. Furniture highlights include property from New York and New England collections as well as a small selection of Native American art. Also included in this sale is a fine group of furniture and decorations made during the Aestheic Movement in the late 19th century. Often drawing on medieval and Renaissance motifs as inspiration, the Aesthetic Movement flourished in America and Britain in the 1880s and has found renewed interest today from designers and collectors. Highlights in the sale include a Herter Brothers part-bedroom set and mirror with corner marquetry masks, as well as a nice selection of ceramics that exemplify the work of early Aesthetic Movement proponents in Britain such as William Morris and Christopher Dresser.
