This season's The English Interior sale brings together all that we love about classic English style and its layered, well-lived-in look, whether it be in town or in the country. Included in the sale are furniture, fine art and decorative objects that span nearly three-hundred years of English and European design. The sale includes an exemplary selection of Chinese Export porcelain, a rare printed document from George III, whimsical pieces by Lady Anne Gordon, an exceptional collection of Black Forest decorations, as well as English portraiture, sporting art and Grand Tour prints and drawings. Furniture highlights include a rare pair of George III satinwood marquetry commodes, a fine George II carved mahogany settee, an unusual George III satinwood and ebony linen press, a George IV gilt-metal-mounted rosewood side cabinet attributed to Frederick Appletree of Birmingham, an Irish George III carved mahogany console table, and a few fine examples of penwork. As no English country house room is complete without the grounding of a fine Persian carpet, the sale includes several nice examples including an exotic Turkish Oushak, a Persian Tabriz, and an Indian Agra. In an ode to designer Mario Buatta, the sale also includes a small collection of furniture and decorations from one of his most loyal clients, Mrs. Patricia Altschul, Charleston, SC. Highlights include upholstered furniture, a faux bamboo mirror, barware, porcelain, a Chinese tôle low table, and English Transferware.
