The Castle, Harlem: The Collection of Philip Hewat-Jaboor & Rodney Keenan
Wednesday, November 17 at 11am
Known for decades as The Castle, the Harlem townhouse renovated and decorated by Philip Hewat-Jaboor and Rodney Keenan represents the architectural and design renaissance that has been taking place in one of New York City?s most vibrant neighborhoods. Rod Keenan, the dapper men's milliner, purchased the condemned 15-foot wide townhouse through the city's HomeWorks program in 1998. Renovations on the structure were completed in 2000, and the long project of creating the interiors with his partner, art consultant Philip Hewat-Jaboor, began. Hewat-Jaboor, who chairs Masterpeice, London, has had a distinguished collecting career, amassing interesting pieces across categories, including 18th and 19th century porcelain, marbles and antiquities. We are pleased to offer a curated selection of furnishings, decorations and fine art from The Castle that represent the playful, modern and elegant style of its owners. Highlights include an Egyptian Revival bed and side tables, a Kenneth Nilson low table and steel bookshelf, an English Aesthetic Movement ebonized cabinet bookcase, a Saarinen oval dining table and stools, a pair of Sevres cache-pots, a Venini chadelier, Fornassetti porcelain and tablewares, and fine art by Marylin Minter, Banksy, Chris Levine and Ruven Afanador.
