Winter Enchantment - Day 2

Our three-day winter auction offers an enchanting inventory of art, antiques, and Americana to dazzle and warm worldwide collections and prospective buyers. On Saturday, notable paintings by Pietro Longhi, James Buttersworth, Thomas Moran, Friedrich Nerly II, Robert Gifford, Eugene Boudin, Edward Nichols, and Charles Webster Hawthorne lead the fine art category, which also includes an Italian micro-mosaic portrait from the Vatican Studio. For the historically minded, an intricate quilt of British and American patriotic symbols, likely made from Civil War uniforms, is offered, as well as a 1795 appointment signed by Pres. George Washington. Furniture runs the gamut, from a Chinese rosewood display table used at the 1939-40 New York World?s Fair Exhibition, to an 1800s cherry and pine tall clock by Nathan Hale (the son of American Revolutionary War patriot, Nathan Hale). A diverse marine selection includes ship paintings, models, and a wide barometer collection. There will also be fine antique furniture, Chinese artifacts, tea caddies, early German glassware, oriental carpets and silver.
