In this, our fifth auction we are proud to present to our friends, followers, and all discerning bidders a wide selection of objects consigned by Boston Area long-time collectors and a Manhattan retiring dealer?s inventory of excellent and Museum worthy antiquities.
We include early Italian bronzes such as a 16th century gilt figurine of the Virgin and Child, a gilt Christ after Giambologna, a Venetian protome female Deity, a superb Spanish 17th c. plaquette of Ecce Homo like the example at the Metropolitan Museum, NYC, and early carved wood figures, the Child Christ as Salvador Mundi, and an Old Master Drawing. Also in the sale are a good painting of the Virgin Mary Queen of Heavens in a tabernacle frame, a 19th c. Diaz, Russian icons, and an important Medieval miniature of the Adoration of the Magi.
Asian Works of Art include several early Chinese Jade mountains, small toggles, Song Dynasty ceramics, bronze three-part Buddha and Japanese Works, Satsuma vase, paintings, several Tsuba, the Pilgrimage to Tokaido and more.
Antiquities and Islamic Art are include, Luristan bronzes, good Islamic Persian Seljuk glazed Ceramic objects, an early tile, an excellent later period Ottoman Turkish bronze mosque candlestick with inscription and a bronze Islamic (Chinese) Incense Burner enameled with reserves decorated with invocations to Allah in Islamic script. And from the Greco-Roman World a large and well carved Head of a Man and other good terracotta statuettes, bronze figures of Athena, The Medusa and other, many good Vases, including a rare painted terracotta Corinthian Aryballos, two ancient Egyptian Masks
