American Furniture, Folk & Decorative Arts, I

Hindman's March 10-11 American Furniture, Folk and Decorative Arts auction celebrates the breadth of the category across four centuries, from 17th Century brass candlesticks and finely carved Colonial furniture to papier-mâché masks made for Disney Studios in the 1930s. Session one (lots 1-335) features a selection of portraiture, 19th Century landscape paintings, brass and pewter candlesticks, and glass articles, including flasks previously from the Collection of George S. McKearin. This session is highlighted by notable pieces of Queen Anne, Chippendale, Federal and Classical furniture, featuring a gilt-stencil decorated breakfast table attributed to Anthony Quervelle. Impressive tall case clocks with standouts by E. Howard & Company, Peter Stretch/John Wood and John Head will also be featured. Session one also includes a spectacular Andrew Clemens sand bottle (lot 297), decorated with a locomotive, spread-winged eagle, and steamboat made for railroad-man Nicholas Jacob Goll.
