Cool for the Summer
Cool for the Summer is the sizzling third installment of Hindman’s collaborative Fine Art x Design Summer Playlist series of deep cuts and hits. The Fine Art portion of the curated sale will feature beach body figuration from the likes of the Hairy Who? and the Chicago Imagists, Jeff Koons, Julie Heffernan, Jane Hammond, Salvador Dali, Allan Feltus, Mark Flood, William Baziotes, Karel Appel, Jean Lurcat and Chen Wenling amongst others. Of abstract excitement coming to the auction block are bold summer patterns, contours and colors from Kazuya Sakai, Julian Stanczak, Raymond Siemanowski, Alfred Jensen, Lily Van Der Stokker Stanley Boxer, George Pfalhler, Josef Albers, Alan Uglow and Charlotte Park. Vacation vista vibes from the minds of Ed Ruscha, April Gornik, Willy Heeks, Hollis Sigler, Paul Anthony Smith, Tom Uttech, Emery Clark, Alfredo Jaar and Hezekiah Baker round out the poolside fine art track selections being sold.
The Design on offer in the sale will feature American and European designs spanning the 20th and 21st centuries. Standouts from Europe include works from Gio Ponti, Lino Tagliapietra, Giovanni Offredi, and Alfredo Barbini together with a broad selection of Swedish flatweave carpets. Additionally on offer will feature an exciting suite of furniture from Brazilian designer Percival Lafer. The sale will also include a wide selection of design classics from manufacturers such as Knoll, Herman Miller, Dunbar, Brueton, and Cassina adjacent to some lesser-seen works from American designer Milo Baughman. Rounding out the design portion is a strong selection of American Studio Craft across a variety of mediums - featuring artists such as Wendell Castle, Dale Chihuly, Christopher Ries, Don Reitz, and Harvey Littleton.
