Rare & Important Travel Posters
An unparalleled collection of American railway posters assembled by Victor Ryerson includes rare examples from the late nineteenth century, exceptional streamliner imagery from the 1920s and ?30s, and 18 posters by Maurice Logan. On offer will be scarce and wonderful images from the Southern Pacific, Northern Pacific, Santa Fe, and other railroad companies. Additionally, the auction will feature posters touting exotic destinations from the beaches of the French Riviera and the work of Roger Broders (Antibes, circa 1928, L?Été sur La Cote d?Azur, 1930, and La Route des Alpes, circa 1920), to the steppes of Siberia (P. Merinov, The Transsiberian Express, 1930), and to the glories of the Mughal emperors of India (Agra, Taj Mahal). Other highlights include Frank Newbould?s seldom-seen 1925 poster advertising travel on the LNER to Berlin, Maurice Lauro?s 1928 Art Deco gem for Trouville on the Normandy coast, and impressive classics such as Leslie Ragan?s 1939 New 20th Century Limited, John Held Jr.?s 1925 Nantucket, and David Klein?s psychedelic masterpiece New York Fly TWA.
