Asian Art from Esteemed British Collector III
Following the success of Arete Art Limited's two previous auctions in 2022 and to welcome the spring of 2023, a new vast collection of fine Chinese works of art have once more been accumulated. To celebrate China's vast and storied history, a wide range of jade, bronze, agate, and ceramics of exquisite quality have been brought together. This auction brings to you selected works of art originally from celebrated collectors and antique dealers, including Mrs. Jackie Somerville-Roberts, Sydney L. Moss Ltd London, and Gerard Hawthorn London etc. as well as from experienced English private collectors. All of the aforementioned names had been behemoths in the field of Chinese antiquities, and we hope to honour their legacy of popularising Chinese works of art in Europe through this auction. All of the lots have clear provenance, many of which had previously been auctioned by firms such as Sotheby's, Christie's, Bonhams and Lyon & Turnbull.
Particular highlights in this auction include a Northern Song Dynasty Longquan Celadon 'Dragon' Urn and Cover, formerly auctioned by Christie's London; A Qing Dynasty white jade and garnet buckle, originally acquired and exhibited by Gerard Hawthorn Ltd., A Tang Dynasty celadon jade 'musician' belt plaque and a Qing Dynasty pale celadon jade 'double lozenge' brushwasher from a British private collector.
